Sree Shankaranarayana Temple

Northernmost Tali Temple of Kerala

Sree Shankaranarayana Temple is situated in Ramanthali in the Kannur district of Kerala. It is recognized as the northernmost Tali temple in the state. The presiding deity, Shankaranarayana, embodies the unified form of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu—the left half of the nearly six-foot-tall panchaloha (five-metal alloy) idol represents Vishnu, while the right half symbolizes Shiva.

The temple’s sreekovil (sanctum sanctorum) is uniquely designed in the shape of an elephant’s back, known as gaja prishta. The deity faces east, and three poojas are performed daily. In addition to the main deity, the temple also enshrines Bhoothananda as a sub-deity.

Among the principal offerings is Kadali (plantain). A distinctive and revered offering is Valiyavattalam payasam, which devotees believe brings the blessing of children when offered at the temple.
